Buyers rarely blame the corner. They blame the purifier, then leave a one-star review saying it "did nothing." For a brand, that makes placement guidance a returns-prevention tool as much as a user tip — which is why it belongs in the manual and on the box, not just in a blog.
The four placement rules that matter

The honest caveat: sizing beats placement
Placement is a multiplier, not a substitute. A correctly sized unit placed badly underperforms; an undersized unit placed perfectly still cannot clean the room — the arithmetic doesn't care where it sits. What this means for product design (OEM angle)
- 360° intake tolerates bad placement. A cylindrical or all-round intake keeps working when one side is closer to a wall — a real advantage in small apartments and hotel rooms. See portable / round OEM.
- Print placement guidance where it gets read — quick-start card and box panel, not page 12 of the manual. It costs nothing and prevents the "did nothing" review.
- Design for elevated use where the target room is a bedroom: stable footprint, cable length that reaches a nightstand, and an outlet direction that does not blow straight at the sleeper.
- Don't oversell placement. Marketing that implies any spot works invites disappointment; stating "keep 30–60 cm clear on all sides" is a spec buyers can follow and verify.
