Private Label Air Purifier Packaging Checklist: Everything You Need Before Mass Production

A complete checklist for importers and brand owners preparing private label packaging for OEM air purifiers — covering box design, manual, barcodes, carton marks and filter packaging.

Getting packaging right before mass production is one of the most important — and most frequently overlooked — steps in launching a private label air purifier. Mistakes in packaging design discovered after bulk production lead to costly reprinting, delayed shipments and marketplace listing problems. Use this checklist to ensure everything is confirmed before your factory starts production.

Step 1: Brand Assets (Before Design Begins)

Before any artwork can be created, you need to supply the factory or your packaging designer with:

  • Logo file — Vector format (AI, EPS or SVG preferred). Avoid low-resolution PNG or JPEG. The logo must be usable at sizes from 20mm to 200mm without quality loss.
  • Brand colours — Specify Pantone codes or CMYK values. Do not rely on RGB values as they appear differently in print.
  • Brand fonts — Specify the font name and weight (e.g. "Montserrat Bold"). If the font is proprietary, provide the font file.
  • Product name and model number — Decide the final consumer-facing product name before artwork begins. Changing it mid-design causes delays.

Step 2: Retail Box (Colour Box) Requirements

The retail box is the most complex packaging component. Confirm the following with your factory before artwork production:

  • Box dimensions — Confirm internal dimensions match the product with adequate padding (typically 15–20mm on all sides). Request a structural dieline from the factory.
  • Printing specification — Colour box typically uses 4-colour offset printing (CMYK). Specify gloss or matte lamination, spot UV areas, and whether foil stamping is required.
  • Language requirements — Which languages appear on the box? US market typically requires English only. EU may require 5–15 languages depending on distribution scope.
  • Required regulatory text — Includes CE marking (EU), FCC statement (US), WEEE symbol, electrical ratings (voltage, wattage, frequency), manufacturer name and address, country of origin, and any market-specific warning text.
  • Barcode — EAN-13 for Europe/global, UPC-A for North America. You must purchase a GS1 barcode prefix for your brand. Do not reuse the factory's generic barcode.

Step 3: User Manual

  • Language coverage matching your target markets
  • Safety warnings compliant with destination market standards
  • Filter replacement instructions with part number and recommended interval
  • Warranty terms if applicable
  • QR code linking to your brand's support page or product registration (optional but recommended for Amazon brands)

Step 4: Product Labelling

  • Rating label on product — Voltage, wattage, frequency, model number, serial number format, manufacturer name. Required by CE, FCC, RCM and most market standards.
  • Filter label — Filter type (e.g. "H13 True HEPA"), replacement interval, compatible model numbers.
  • Warning stickers — Any market-specific safety warnings required by CE or UL/ETL certification.

Step 5: Carton (Export Box) Marking

The export carton must include: your brand name or shipper mark, product name and model, carton number (e.g. "1 of 20"), quantity per carton, gross weight and net weight, carton dimensions (L × W × H in cm), country of origin ("Made in China"), and any Amazon FBA label requirements if shipping direct to fulfilment centre.

Step 6: Filter Replacement Packaging

If you plan to sell replacement filters separately (strongly recommended for recurring revenue), confirm:

  • Filter part number unique to your brand
  • Packaging type (retail box, polybag with header card, or bulk poly)
  • Compatibility statement printed on packaging (e.g. "Compatible with [Your Brand] Model X")
  • Barcode separate from the main unit barcode

Step 7: Pre-Production Approval Checklist

Before approving mass production, confirm you have physically reviewed or digitally approved:

  • Colour box sample (physical print sample, not digital PDF)
  • Manual print sample
  • Product with logo and rating label applied
  • Fully packaged unit (product + accessories + manual in retail box)
  • Export carton with markings
  • Filter replacement packaging sample (if applicable)
